#2: The Culture Conundrum

Listen Everywhere

About the Episode

The word “culture” has become such a buzzword in our society. But what does it actually mean? We’re diving deep into “culture” over the next two weeks. We believe culture is one of the most misunderstood and undervalued assets in a business or organization. No matter where you are in your leadership journey, grasping the understanding and appreciation for culture is key. In today’s “music moment” we’re sharing our thoughts on the recent controversy with Spotify, which involved Brené Brown’s decision to pause her podcasts.

Teachings from Simon Sinek:

  • Your company doesn’t have a culture, it is a culture.
  • Cultures cannot be transferred, installed, or added – they can only evolve from the culture you already have.
  • The culture of a company is like the character of an individual. We know that when we look at someone’s character, we wonder things such as what they’re like when they’re stressed. How do they behave in good times, and in bad? How do they treat people? Do they maintain their compassion, humility, and positivity no matter what? It’s the same for a company. Your company will have a culture. The question is whether you want to leave its development to chance or consciously go about constructing a culture in which your employees and business are at their best.
